What unique skills/experience would you bring to the board?
I have many unique skills, and probably some different experiences than most of the board.
As I graduated from Clarkstown South last year I have a strong understanding of the areas and programs in need of attention in this district. I have many ideas that can seriously benefit the district as a whole; ideas that other members of the board might not come across so easily as they have not sat in our classrooms 5 days a week as recently as I. For example, to continue to offer programs that attract diverse learners to our courses, and encourage our students to take a more active roll into their education. I also have an understanding of some of the waste within buildings.
Why are you running for the school board?
I have always enjoyed being part of the Clarkstown Central School District. These past few years I have felt that we as a district have lost sight of our goals. Our Goals as a District are to provide a safe and effective learning environment to all our students. Making sure that our students are given the best opportunities, and the best education is a must in my eyes. We as a district need to stop being reactive, instead we need to be proactive!
How do you think you can help the board work more effectively and cooperatively as a whole and with the administration?
In school I always looked up to my teachers, and administrators. I think the best way to work cooperatively with others in any situation, is to maintain a level of respect, and put personal feelings aside. It is important to listen to each other and try to understand their side on a topic. I think that my experience working with others, would be a great asset to helping the board work cooperatively together as one again.
What do you see as the single greatest challenge facing the Clarkstown School District?
In my opinion, our greatest challenge is the current state of many school buildings. Many need major attention. All too often we take the quick fix, which in the long run isn’t the best, and doesn’t last. Moving forward we need to look into the future and the side effects a decision might have, before making any decisions.
